Hall and Oates and Tears For Fears are bringing their signature sounds to the Joe Louis Arena!
Tears for Fears was formed in Bath (Somerset) in 1981 by Roland Orzabal (vocals, guitars, keyboards) and Curt Smith (vocals, bass guitars, keyboards) after the dissolution of their first band, Graduate. They recruited Ian Stanley (keyboards) and Manny Elias (drums, percussion) to complete the line-up and got a record deal with Phonogram Records after releasing 2 demo tapes. They released 2 singles (Suffer the Children in 1981 and Pale Shelter in 1982) but it wasn’t until their third single (Mad World) did they get mainstream recognition. The single hit #3 on the UK charts in 1982 and their debut studio album (The Hurting) came out in March 1983. It hit #1 on the UK Albums chart and went on to be certified Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry. Their 2nd album (1985’s Songs from the Big Chair) topped the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified triple Platinum in the UK, 5-times Platinum in the US, and 7-times Platinum in Canada. One of the album’s tracks (Everybody Wants to Rule the World) won the 1986 Brit Award for Best British Single. The band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and is currently working on their 7th studio album.
